In Episode 98 of Tech Topic, Nina shows how to access your Gemini Notebooks in Google Search AI Mode, Peggy explains how add custom comment guidelines to your YouTube channel, and Bob shares why you should not embrace AI "Doom Loop" talk.

Peggy Kolm: Add custom Channel Guidelines for comments on your YouTube channel

Peggy explained how you can set custom guidelines for comments and live chat on your YouTube channel. This helps set expectations for community behavior and your moderation policy. 

To add Channel Guidelines to your own YouTube channel: 

1. In YouTube Studio on the web, open Settings from the left menu.
2. Click "Community Moderation", then open the "Channel Guidelines" tab.
3. Add a Welcome Message and up to three guidelines. 

Peggy says, "This helps you set the tone for your communities on YouTube."

What you need to know

  • Available to all YouTube channels with Advanced Features enabled.
  • YouTube won't remove content based on your guidelines, that's up to you. 
  • Everyone still needs to follow the YouTube Community Guidelines.
  • Your Channel Guidelines are visible when someone adds a comment to a video or post in the mobile app, or in live stream chat on both mobile and desktop. 
  • Channel Guidelines are only shown once, the first time a viewer posts a comment or chat.

Nina Trankova: Access Gemini Notebooks in Google Search AI Mode

Nina shared how to access your Gemini Notebooks in AI Mode in Google Search. This gives you "hybrid grounding", combining your private uploaded sources in your Notebook with real-time web search results. 

Access your Notebooks in Search

1. Open Google Search.
2. Click AI Mode.
3. A window pops up and on the left you will find your Notebooks.
4. The searches you do can be added to your Notebooks. You can also add new sources.

Nina adds, "My bonus tip here is about the availability and this feature is fully integrated with personal accounts. So if you have a work account, I would generate a presentation for my notebook, download and upload it for my personal account where I can add sources with notebook, add images, files, everything directly in search and then it synchronizes and the search you can put back to your notebooks."

What you need to know

  • Notebooks automatically appear in AI Mode history across the Gemini app and Google Notebook.
  • Artifacts like Audio Overviews are only available in Google Notebook.
  • You can generate a PDF directly from search.
  • This is currently available in 180 countries in English. Local languages support will soon be available.
  • Notebook threads in AI Mode are saved to your Search history, and can be used to show you ads and train Google's generative AI models.
  • Access in Google Workspace requires Gemini licensing add-ons, and can be turned on and off in the Google Workspace Admin console.

Bob Danley: Don't Embrace the AI Doom Talk

Bob made the case why you shouldn't fully embrace the doom lop that AI is going to exterminate every human being on the planet.

He says,  "That isn't the case. It may not ever be the case because we have really smart people working on this. [...]  And just don't forget that this is a tool just like everything else. And it can help you enormously. Lots of these things are really tedious to do and AI will take care of it within seconds in many cases. It's extraordinary what can be done."

And he notes, "Continue to use AI, sharpen your skills. That's how you're going to get forward in your career in these times."
