Nina Trankova:Turn a vertical Slides presentation into a short video.

Nina explained how to create a vertical slide presentation in Google Slides. You can set the the dimensions of your presentation by going to File > Page Setup > Custom.

You can then turn your vertical presentation into a vertical video with Google Vids.

Nina says, "use the vertical format in Google Slides and create content for either your presentations with the team [who are using mobile devices] or upload content across social media [like YouTube Shorts and Facebook Reels]."

Peggy Kolm: Record your Google Slides Presentation with Google Vids

Peggy demonstrated how to use the new Record button in Google Slides to record your presentation with Google Vids.

Click the Record button on the right sidebar, then click Record Video. This opens the Google Vids recording interface that lets you record your screen and camera simultaneously.

Once your recording is complete, you can choose to Edit the video with Google Vids. Google Vids has transcript-based editing, separates your recording into editable objects, and lets you add text, captions, stickers and other content. Some accounts may also have access to generative AI tools.

This feature is available to everyone with a personal Google Account or Google Workspace account.

She notes that there was a previous recording feature built into Google Slides for Google Workspace. That recording tool can now be found under the View menu.

Peggy explained why the new recording option is an improvement: "So, this gives you a lot more options because you can easily just go to Vids to edit your video. And as Nina told us, you can use a vertical presentation if you want to make a vertical video. Nice and easy."

Bob Danley: Create your AI Digital Twin with Gemini Notebook

Bob gave an overview of how to create your "Digital Twin" that uses your "personal digital DNA" in Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM). This is grounded in your sources, uses your writing style, and your thinking style.

When you are in Gemini Notebook chat, at top right, click the Configure Chat icon. This lets you custom define your conversational goal, style, and role. You can supply some written work as examples.

He notes you can build a Gemini Gem to do this outside of Notebook.

Bob says, "... you are going to tell AI all about yourself so that AI can basically mimic who you are. Now, I know that sounds like a pie in the sky, but ... if we complain about the slop on the internet, we as individuals can take action. The things that we produce ourselves won't be slop because we're going to provide AI and Gemini and Notebook with it with what we basically think and or want people to take action about"

Bob will host an OnEBoard Chat session on this topic on September 6th.
