OnEBoard Chat: Create Video Overviews with NotebookLM

This week Nina Trankova demonstrated how to create a Video Overview from documents, links, slides and other sources using NotebookLM.

This week's background was generated in Google Meet with the prompt "A fancy Google conference hall with three screens reading Video Overviews". It's mirrored in the live stream.

The discussion covered the entire process from creating the Video Overview, optimizing prompts to customize the output, and some example use cases.
  • How to set up a NotebookLM notebook

Takeaways

Customize Video Overview output: Click the 3 dot icon on the Video Overview button, then explain "What should the AI host focus on". You can also specify the length of the video and sources to focus on.

Nina Trankova: "That's my recommendation and take away, to play with Video Overviews. Not just click through it, but be smart and ask it exactly what you wish to improve."

Nina Trankova: "The crucial part is the most important is the customization. In our experiments it is very clear that when you click through very fast, you get an average result which is far from excellent."

Nina Trankova:  "[Using multiple sources] does wonders.  When I first told it to use two resources,  I wasn't aiming exactly at that, but the result was astonishing. It was so much better than with one resource."

Bob Danley: "... you need to define what audience this thing is going to produce it for ... it would be helpful if you as a team or as an individual you wanted to know, you know, what you've been doing from 50,000 feet and AI is perfect at looking at your stuff and finding patterns."

Peggy K: "one thing that is missing is any way to edit the output ... I guess you could bring it into your favorite video editing program and insert things if you wanted to, and keep the audio."
