Highlights from the July discussions

July 7: Which Google Business Profile update do you find most important?

Host: Molly Youngblood

There were several recent changes to Google Business Profiles, both adding and removing features for local businesses. On X people were evenly divided on whether the removal of chat and call history and the new layout for replying to and reporting reviews was the most important update. On YouTube and LinkedIn poll-takers thought the updated verification tool was the most important.

Notable comments:
  • Molly Youngblood: As a GBP manager I would agree all of these are important, flagging fake reviews, wheelchair accessible, helping with video verifications, and knowing about GBP call and chat history going away.
  • Molly Youngblood: Google announced that over 10 Million websites went down so that means 10 million biz owners no longer have a website
  • Nina Trankova: All are important. I voted for the Chat & History gone. It's essential for businesses to communicate with their clients. 🚥I have double checked that my clients with verified business profiles have valid phone numbers , so they can use Messaging, Whatsapp option etc.
  • Search Berg: Losing chat and call history was a big blow, I think. That feature made it so much easier for potential customers to directly contact businesses and for those businesses to keep track of each interaction.

July 14, 2024: How do you search for How-To videos?

Host: Peggy Kolm

YouTube is where people look for tutorials! It’s no surprise that on YouTube most people search YouTube for how-to videos, but a significant percentage use Google Search. On X people also mostly search YouTube, followed by Google; and on LinkedIn poll-takers were evenly split. Few people indicated they search on TikTok or Instagram, but a couple said they use ChatGPT or other AI tools.

Notable comments:
  • Nina Trankova: The descriptions of YouTube videos is an absolute gem of resources! No other platform is even close to this educational and interactive character of the how-to videos on YouTube. Or can read any how-to video in their native language CC.
  • Nina Trankova: If I watch a how-to video on Instagram I find it difficult to engage with the creator while on YouTube Comments are often a whole tutorial by itself. So many users asking and sharing essential comments. That's my experience.
  • Peggy K: I usually use Google Search and end up on whatever platform has the information I need. It usually turns out to be YouTube
  • Mark Barrus: YouTube and Instagram for me. I like PDQ (put together quickly) Time lapse videos.
  • William Rock: I have been using a lot of ChatGPT and other AI tools to learn throughout my workday. (Editor’s note: ChatGPT got another recommendation over on YouTube)

July 21, 2024: Do you use Gemini or other AI tools to write video descriptions?

Host: Bob Danley
OnEBoard experimented with a new format, having a live stream discussion and tips to complement the poll. Thanks to everyone who joined the live chat!

This week's question was simple: do you use Gemini or other AI tools for your video descriptions? The vast majority of respondents say they do not.

July 28, 2024: Do you use AI tools to create your videos?

Host: Molly Youngblood

This week’s question asked whether people used AI software to make videos, and if not, if they had at least experimented with the software. The results were strikingly different on different platforms.
  • On YouTube most respondents said they have experimented with AI software, but very few indicated they actually use it.
  • On LinkedIn most respondents use AI software, and most others have experimented with it.
  • On X, almost half of the respondents said they had never tried AI software for making videos..
Notable comments:
  • Molly Youngblood: My take away from AI generated video content is it should be verified before using and creates the opportunity to use AI in ways we never expected.
  • Peggy K: I have experimented with generative AI tools, particularly for getting ideas. I played with a generated avatar, but I think it could decrease trust to have a pretend person speaking. It might be fun to make a clearly fake avatar though, like a cartoon though.
  • Nina Trankova: I use an AI software while creating my How-to videos. I mostly add entertaining focus points. I'm looking to expand my experience with more AI tools. Can you recommend some and give examples
  • Brigitte Uras: Non, pas toujours, seulement avec mon smartphone.
Thanks to everyone who participated in #OnEBoardChat discussion!
