Current projections estimate worldwide AI spending will reach $2.5 trillion this year, a 44% year-over-year increase.

However, this technological acceleration brings significant ethical, social, and environmental challenges. Central to the current discourse is the necessity of "AI Literacy"—the ability of humans to use AI as a tool while maintaining critical thinking and moral agency.

Ethical frameworks, such as those proposed by the Vatican, emphasize that human dignity must remain the central axis of AI development, rejecting fully autonomous decision-making in critical domains.

Furthermore, the "true costs" of AI, including massive water and energy consumption, necessitate a move toward greater transparency and citizen-led governance to ensure the technology serves the benefit of mankind rather than merely the interests of capital or surveillance.

Takeaways

"If we think in terms of all or nothing, or black and white this is never going to work... So don't reject it, embrace it because it's going to make the world better. We just need to figure out how we can do it safely and ethically", says Bob Danley.

"And now comes in turn the AI literacy and yeah I mean if people cannot communicate they use all sorts of social platforms to augment their hate or their emotions that are not necessarily to be to be spread and this is not doing any good. But now if people are well educated and critically thinking then all new technologies including AI can be used for good." - Svetlana Stavreva.

"How can people be encouraged to be more realistic and responsible? A huge issue is people assuming AI tools are smarter than they are, so ignoring guardrails, not checking the output for accuracy, and part of the reason is marketing of course" - Peggy Kolm.

"...if you're resistant to it, I'm telling you, the bus is going to run over you because people are going to adopt it whether you like it or not. So be part of the solution, not part of the problem." - Bob Danley.

"For example, there are a lot of use cases where these tools can help people in imparity. It's good for accessibility. Immigrants can talk immediately in Spanish if they are in Spain and don't know the language. This is a huge revolution in communications" - Nina Trankova about Speech Translation

"He doesn't do social media. He doesn't know what meme means and he's super happy with his life. So we should be all like him. Like don't go online all the time." - Nina Trankova about the actor Cillian Murthy, Best Actor (Oscar 2024).

"I want to use those benefits of the technology but I want to use them consciously so that no harm is done and only for the good. And this is a choice that I made as a human."- Svetlana Stavreva
