Tech Topic 75: Analyze Spreadsheets with NotebookLM, Ask Gemini in Meet, Disable YouTube's Visual Enhancements

In this week's Tech Topic the OnEBoard Crew demonstrated how to analyze spreadsheets with NotebookLM, use Ask Gemini in Google Meet to get a meeting recap, and manage your settings for YouTube's automated visual and audio enhancements.

This week's background was generated in Meet with the prompt "Autumn wonderland".

Bob Danley: Analyze Google Sheets with NotebookLM

Bob demonstrated how he uses NotebookLM to analyze data in Google Sheets.

He added Google Sheets spreadsheets (moisture readings and number of mushroom photos) to a NotebookLM notebook, and then asked it analyze the data to find a relationship between soil moisture and mushroom numbers. It found a correlation.

You can see the details in Bob's slide deck, above.

Bob says, "this is really important because again if you take a long distance trip you want to have some expectation of what you're going to find on the other end because because many cases there's nobody to call and say hey what's happening over there and and so through this process I'm able to gain predictive knowledge which is pretty incredible."

Nina Trankova: Use Ask Gemini in Google Meet

Nina demonstrated how to use Ask Gemini in Google Meet to summarize a transcript from a meeting she missed with Peggy and Bob.

Nina says, "I asked Peggy and Bob if that is the accurate summary of the conversation, and they found it pretty impressive. Use the new functionality, Ask Gemini, in your Google Meet meetings."

Peggy Kolm: Manage YouTube settings for automatic enhancements

Manage your channel's Video Quality Enhancements settings in YouTube Studio on desktop.

Peggy talked about a new YouTube feature that uses AI to upscale lower resolution videos, plus other automatic video enhancements YouTube uses.

She then shared how you can turn off (or on) visual and audio enhancements in YouTube Studio by going to Settings > Channel > Advanced Settings.

Peggy says, "The thing is, some of these may actually be creative choices. You may not actually want YouTube to make these changes to your videos automatically. You know, they say, "Oh, it's going to be  only used when they think it will enhance the viewing experience." It's not quite clear when that is exactly.
And sometimes people have reported these visual enhancements, especially make the videos look a little weird, you know, off. So, the bottom line is you can now turn these off."
