Highlights from the September OnEBoardChats
September 3: Internet Fragmentation
Host: Nina Trankova (@NinaTrankova)Q2 (link): What causes internet fragmentation? Give some examples!
Welcome to the Internet Fragmentation conversation. Did you know that 37% of the 🌍 people are not connected to the Internet? Adding ⚠️the Fragmentation problem, it turns out we are in a struggle for the global open Internet 🛜#OnEBoardChat #InternetFragmentation pic.twitter.com/1jI7rmrbcw
— Nina Trankova - 🇧🇬4🇺🇦OnEBoardChat (@NinaTrankova) September 3, 2023
A1-3: "A fragmented Internet is like driving without the common understanding of what side of the road we go on. 🚘 Once you have people driving wherever they want, navigating the road becomes less efficient" @internetsociety https://t.co/UF20eak9TY#OnEBoardChat #Splinternet
— Nina Trankova - 🇧🇬4🇺🇦OnEBoardChat (@NinaTrankova) September 3, 2023
A1: Internet fragmentation, or the splinternet, is the idea that the open, global internet is splintering into a collection of isolated networks. These networks are controlled by governments or corporations
— Molly Youngblood (@mygeigermeister) September 3, 2023
So many not complying with best practices, aka multistakeholder approach ⚠️ #OnEBoardChat #InternetFragmentation
— Nina Trankova - 🇧🇬4🇺🇦OnEBoardChat (@NinaTrankova) September 3, 2023
A2 I think these are serious ways. The internet is fragmented:
— Peggy K (@PeggyKTC) September 3, 2023
* Government blocking the Internet
* Government blocking particular sites
* Companies not offering internet access that is affordable#oneboardchat
You are correct, Brigitte! It is why the problem is complicated.
— Nina Trankova - 🇧🇬4🇺🇦OnEBoardChat (@NinaTrankova) September 3, 2023
💡Content restrictions can be justified ref vulnerable populations, IP rights, proprietary networks, local data protection laws. This is in my A1 #OnEBoardChat
September 10: Google Ad Grants
Host: Molly Youngblood (@mygeigermeister)Q1 (link): What is Google Ad Grants?
Q2 (link): Who qualifies for a Google Ad Grant?
A1: AdGrants is for NGO. "With Google Ad Grants, you can reach new audiences as they search on Google for words related to your organization and its mission", that's what the Help center reads https://t.co/JxwB6zeqJM #GoogleAdGrants #OnEBoardChat
— Nina Trankova - 🇧🇬4🇺🇦OnEBoardChat (@NinaTrankova) September 10, 2023
A1-2 From the Google Ad Grants FAQ
— Peggy K (@PeggyKTC) September 10, 2023
"Google Ad Grants connects people with the causes they care about by providing up to $10,000 USD per month of in-kind search advertising for qualifying nonprofits."https://t.co/7jagpDLP0M#OnEBoardChat
A2: ✔️A non-profit organization must hold valid charity status in their country in order to qualify.
— Nina Trankova - 🇧🇬4🇺🇦OnEBoardChat (@NinaTrankova) September 10, 2023
✔️Their own website must comply to Google's website policy https://t.co/DARLLZu3rg#GoogleAdGrants #OnEBoardChat
Hello @gdintchev yes, so in America they require the non profit charity ID number with the IRS, so it would be the government documentation for each respective country #OnEBoardChat
— Molly Youngblood (@mygeigermeister) September 11, 2023
Absolutely not a set and forget it, The ad grant requires regular audits and maintenance and adherence to Google Ads policies #OnEBoardChat

September 17: Encryption and Messaging
Host: Peggy K (@PeggyKTC)Q1 (link): Do you use a messaging platform with end-to-end encryption?
Q2 (link): Do you use a video call or meeting platform with end-to-end encryption?
A1: Definitely use E2EE on various platforms including Chat WhatsApp, Messenger and many more for work. Yes for me E2EE is very important because sometimes I discuss client work like Google Business Profile reinstatements #OnEBoardChat
— Molly Youngblood (@mygeigermeister) September 17, 2023
Lesson by the savvy tech community #encryption https://t.co/tX9JfjFLvq
— Nina Trankova - 🇧🇬4🇺🇦OnEBoardChat (@NinaTrankova) September 19, 2023
I use WhatsApp, Google Chat, Facebook Messenger, & Twitter DM's. I don't really care about end-end encryption because I don't really chat about anything that is private. If I need something to be end-end encrypted I use iMessages that comes on the iPhone, Mac, iPad, & Apple Watch
— Diego C. (@DiegoCGooglePE) September 17, 2023
A2 I use Meet and Zoom for meetings, neither use E2EE. For personal video calls I use Meet calling (Duo)with E2EE. I think fewer features are a significant impediment to adoption of E2EE for video meetings. I would miss many of the features like captions and recording. #OnEBoard
— Peggy K (@PeggyKTC) September 17, 2023
Q2: I'm using Google Meet. I think it's important to use both. Differentiate if E2EE is a priority > then exclude fancy AI features.
— Nina Trankova - 🇧🇬4🇺🇦OnEBoardChat (@NinaTrankova) September 17, 2023
✅ Google is not sharing data for AI model training without user consent.
👾 Plan for innovation with meeting features! #OnEBoardChat
Q3 , question délicate, je pense que oui, cela éviterait parfois à la bêtise humaine de proliférer des obscénités de toutes sortes que l on pourrait voir ou entendre, à mon avis une sécurité de plus, je ne suis pas contre !
— Uras Brigitte (@BrigitteUras) September 17, 2023
A3 -1.It establishes a dangerous precedent that could weaken encryption globally. This is because those encryption “backdoors” can be opened by anyone who finds them, including criminals, terrorist organizations, and other hostile.https://t.co/xiK9JMEcnh #OnEBoardChat
— Nina Trankova - 🇧🇬4🇺🇦OnEBoardChat (@NinaTrankova) September 18, 2023
September 24: AI and SEO
Host: Molly Youngblood (@mygeigermeister)Q2 (link): How can you avoid being penalized by Google for using AI-generated content?
A1: pt. 1, You can use ChatGPT several ways to help optimize your SEO Strategy: #OnEBoardChat
— Molly Youngblood (@mygeigermeister) September 24, 2023
Title and Description tags, Custom Coding, Content Creation, Keyword Research And Translation, FAQs, webpage or blog topics, social media posts topics, email headlines, schema markup, pic.twitter.com/Dgt7DikQzR
A1: I'm using Bard instead by giving prompts:
— Nina Trankova - 🇧🇬4🇺🇦OnEBoardChat (@NinaTrankova) September 24, 2023
1️⃣ I write down what I'm doing by including the 5W, why, when, how, who, where. Wring a blog post..
2️⃣ I link the resource text, my draft
3️⃣ I give a brief and clear prompt
➕ I ask Bard what I missed #OnEBoardChat #AI #SEO
It sort of is unusable - there are so many factual errors #OnEBoardChat
— Dorothée Lefering (@DoroLef) September 24, 2023
Was optimizing a Google Business profile and noticed "Help Me write" for the business description which I used and wrote a pretty accurate description in seconds! #OnEBoardChat
— Molly Youngblood (@mygeigermeister) September 24, 2023
A1-3 I have improved social media posts for OnEBoard, but AI failed for the Newsletter. ⚡ It's factual was AI's response. Download the fee PDF to understand why. And subscribe 🗞️ #OnEBoardChat #AI https://t.co/U3WDs7r2RO#OnEBoardChat
— Nina Trankova - 🇧🇬4🇺🇦OnEBoardChat (@NinaTrankova) September 24, 2023
A2-3 I think there is legitimate concern that Google isn't good enough at detecting false content, and that will pollute the search results.
— Peggy K (@PeggyKTC) September 24, 2023
That's concerning especially for spreading misinformation, bad medical suggestions, etc.https://t.co/jKAzaQVb6t#OnEBoardChat
