Tech Topic 82: Admin Console Gemini Alpha Features, Make Music with Lyria, Longer Google Vids Videos

In this week's episode of OnEBoard Tech Topic, Nina explains how Google Workspace admins can manage Gemini Alpha features, Bob demonstrated how to use Lyria in Gemini to create music with a photo prompt, and Peggy shared a Google Vids update that lets you create longer videos.

This week's background celebrates Women's History Month, with artwork by Manon Louart. It's currently a seasonal option from Google Meet.

Nina Trankova: Google Workspace Admin Settings for Gemini Alpha Features

Nina explained which Gemini Alpha AI features are available to Google Workspace customers, if that option is enabled by the Google Workspace administrator. She also showed which admin settings to change, and shared reasons why you might not want to enable the alpha features for your entire organization.

Nina says, "Turn it on just for testing purposes on a specific group or user. That's my tip. It doesn't sound wise to turn it on the domain because you just freely agree to lose the agreement you have with Google with the services for your data that is very strict and with alpha it's not strict."

Bob Danley: Making Digital Music with Lyria 3 in Gemini

Bob showed how to generate music in the Gemini app using the Lyria 3 music model. He used a photo he had taken as part of the prompt.

Bob says, "I looked at some of the examples and I think it's more for tongue-in-cheek social media postings ... where you make a video that you supply some silly lyrics to. But anyway, give it a shot. It's worth  playing around with because I didn't actually tap into every possibility and maybe you'll discover that it's a fun thing to use."

Prompt: A photo of wildflowers with mountains in the background, with text prompt "Wildflowers in foothills of the Bitterroot Mountains...the wind is blowing ever so slightly in this open landscape, a cinematic orchestral piece that swells with a soaring finale."

Peggy Kolm: Create Longer Videos with Google Vids

Peggy shared an update for Google Vids that lets you create videos up to 30 minutes long (previously the limit was 10 minutes). The update also lets you import videos up to 95 minutes long/4 GB to create smaller clips.

This update will be rolling out to all accounts over the next few weeks.

Peggy says, "It is integrated with Google Drive and Google Photos. So you could have a recording of a Google Meet meeting that goes automatically to your Google Drive. You're inside Google Vids. You can then bring that in and make an up to 30 minute clip from that into a new video."
