Tech Topic 65: Use Gemini Live to Explore Nature, Consolidate Documents, and Understand Videos

In this week's Tech Topic, the OnEBoard crew shared three tips for using Google Gemini for work and life. Use Gemini to explore nature, chat about your videos in Google Drive, summarize your files and create an action plan.

This week the team each generated a Meet background with a kite flying over a green meadow to celebrate the beginning of the summer season.

Bob Danley: Use Your Camera with Gemini Live to Explore Nature

This week Bob shared his experience using Gemini Live on his Android phone to identify butterflies when out taking nature photos out on a mountainside. He had a little trouble because he couldn't get close enough to the butterfly with his phone.

"I think the real problem was that it just couldn't in fact it told me it couldn't see ...  so I moved it closer and once it did find a butterfly I think things worked out better. However, I think it's going to be a game changer especially if you were to do plants which are static and you just stood there. I think that Gemini in real time could really provide you with some really interesting information."

Bob notes that if you want to record your sessions you need to use screen record on your Android device or a third party screen recording tool.

Gemini Live camera and screen sharing is available for free for Android and iOS.

Nina Trankova: Use Gemini to Summarize Information from Multiple Documents

Gemini generated a list of tips from multiple documents, plus suggestions for how to use that content

Nina demonstrated how to use Gemini 2.5 Pro to provide a list of tips from all 10 Tech Topic 2025 episodes (that's 30 tips!), to work towards creating an OnEBoard app.

She noted, "this list is summarized by categories. I didn't ask you to categorize but everything on the list is absolutely as Gemini said a valuable asset."

She is also using Gemini for project development, having it provide suggestions for repurposing the consolidated list of tips, such as driving newsletter sign-ups.

Read the "key takeaways" generated by Gemini.

Peggy shared how to use Gemini to ask questions about your videos stored in Google Drive.

"What you can do is open a video in Google Drive, click the Sparkly Gemini button, and it will then let
you ask questions about the video that you're looking at."

You can ask Gemini to create a summary, provide takeaways or list action items.

This is currently only available for videos in English, and it requires either a Google Workspace account or a personal Google Account with a Google One AI Premium subscription.
